I’m Shakina — and I grew up with a wooden comb in my hand.
Growing up in India, natural products weren’t a lifestyle choice. They were just how we lived. My family used neem wood combs, bamboo toothbrushes, and natural soaps. Nobody called it “eco-friendly.” It was simply what you used — because it worked, it was safe, and it had been trusted for generations.
Then in 2021, I moved to Toronto, Canada.
And everything changed.
Suddenly every product I picked up in a store was wrapped in plastic. Plastic toothbrushes. Plastic combs. Plastic packaging on things that didn’t even need packaging. I stood in a drugstore one afternoon staring at an entire aisle of plastic and thought — back home, we never needed any of this.
I missed my wooden comb. I missed the way my hair felt after using it. I missed the simplicity of products that came from the earth and went back to it.
So I ordered some from back home. And the moment I started using them again — my hair felt healthier, my scalp felt calmer, and honestly? I felt more like myself.
I started sharing them with friends here in Toronto. The reaction was always the same — “this actually works better than what I’ve been using — where can I get one?”
That question changed everything.
I thought — if I grew up with these products and they genuinely work better, why isn’t anyone bringing them to Canada properly? With real quality. Real craftsmanship. Real care?
So I did it myself.
I went back to India and connected with skilled artisans — craftspeople whose families have been handcrafting neem wood and bamboo products for generations. People who take real pride in what they make. And I brought their work to Canada under one name — The Woodly.

This isn’t just a business for me. It’s personal. It’s the products I grew up with. It’s my culture, my roots, and my belief that everyone — no matter where they live — deserves access to natural products that actually work.
